Leeds United will reportedly look to sign 27-year-old out-of-favour French defender Axel Disasi from Chelsea in the winter transfer window.
According to a report by Football Insider, Axel Disasi is the subject of interest from Leeds United. The Whites are keen on reinforcing their defensive unit by signing a centre-back in the winter transfer window. So, the 27-year-old out-of-favour Chelsea defender has emerged as an option.
The Frenchman has no future at Chelsea after Enzo Maresca placed him in the “bomb squad” ahead of the 2025/26 season. Widespread reports have thus linked Disasi with several well-known clubs, with intermediaries also offering him to European bigwigs like Barcelona.
How has Axel Disasi fared at Chelsea?
Axel Disasi has endured a frustrating journey since joining Chelsea from AS Monaco in a deal worth €45 million in August 2023. The 27-year-old enjoyed a solid debut season, but he was not convincing enough to become an undisputed first-choice starter. The issues have worsened since Enzo Maresca took over as the Chelsea boss, and the West London club loaned him to Aston Villa for the second half of the 2024/25 campaign.
However, the French defender managed only 614 minutes of game time in ten appearances for Aston Villa before returning to Chelsea. Meanwhile, Disasi has no future at the West London club, as they are ready to cash in on him at the earliest opportunity. A move across the Premier League may be on the cards, with Leeds United among the prospective suitors vying for his signature.
Move across the Premier League on the cards?
Leeds United’s interest in Axel Disasi is understandable. The Whites are scouring the market for a centre-back heading into the winter transfer window, as Daniel Farke’s new system requires an additional central defender. Additionally, Sebastiaan Bornauw faces an uncertain future at Leeds United amid his links with FC Koln.
Several candidates have thus emerged on Leeds United’s radar, with Disasi also a viable target. The 2024/25 EFL Championship winners are ready to launch a bid to sign the 27-year-old French international on loan in the winter transfer window.
However, Leeds United will not be alone in the race to sign Disasi, as widespread reports have linked him with other Premier League clubs and high-profile European outfits like AC Milan. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for the Frenchman amid his desire to get away from his Chelsea nightmare.
