Crystal Palace agree £35 million deal to sign Brennan Johnson, player yet to approve move

Crystal Palace have agreed a £35 million fee with Tottenham Hotspur for Brennan Johnson, with the Welsh international yet to give his go-ahead.

According to The Athletic, Crystal Palace have an agreement in place with Tottenham for the transfer of winger Brennan Johnson. The Eagles have agreed to pay £35 million for the Welsh attacker, although the player is yet to decide on the move, which may suggest complexities behind the scenes.

Crystal Palace were widely expected to strengthen their squad in January, after a largely average summer window. Oliver Glasner has internally suggested the need to reinforce so as to keep up with their objectives of finishing in one of the European places as well as winning the UEFA Europa Conference League this term.

The Austrian tactician might get his first wish of adding a quality attacker, as Crystal Palace have agreed a £35 million fee with Tottenham for Brennan Johnson. While the fee is significantly lower than the £47.5 million Tottenham spent back in the summer of 2023, they are ready to sell the Welshman.

Johnson has fallen in the pecking order despite being Tottenham’s top goalscorer last season, as he also found the winner in the Europa League final. The summer transfer window saw Spurs strengthen their attacking setup with the arrivals of Xavi Simons and Mohammed Kudus, among others, with the latter directly taking up Brennan Johnson’s spot in the team.

Spurs feel they are well covered in the positions Johnson can operate moving forward, as they might look to bring in the cash to re-invest in the squad. As the fee between Palace and Tottenham is agreed, the Welshman is yet to give his approval on the deal.

Will Brennan Johnson join Crystal Palace?

Crystal Palace had been hopeful of signing Johnson for some time, and they are now a step closer to bringing the Tottenham wide man to the club. However, they are not alone, as Bournemouth had also considered him as a replacement for Antoine Semenyo.

Aston Villa are also interested in a move, meaning Brennan Johnson could take his time before deciding the outcome of this Crystal Palace move. For now, there is no decision forthcoming from the Welshman, although the Eagles are a strong suitor as things stand and the most advanced to convince the Welsh international.
