AS Roma are confident of signing Joshua Zirkzee in January with a loan move, with a conditional buy obligation being planned.
According to Corriere dello Sport via Sport Witness, Josuha Zirkzee is now expected to make a return to Serie A in January, with AS Roma confident of sealing a deal with Manchester United. The Serie A top four challengers are ready to make a loan move with a conditional buy obligation for the Dutch star.
Joshua Zirkzee’s time at Manchester United has not gone to plan, despite the Dutchman showing his quality in flashes since his move there 18 months ago. The attacker has not found his rhythm in the team under Ruben Amorim, with summer arrival Benjamin Sesko being preferred to lead the line.
Zirkzee was expected to be on the market ahead of the January window, although some stories stated the club might keep him following the raft of AFCON-led absentees. Yet, there are persistent links for the Dutchman to leave, with AS Roma now seen as the prime contender.
AS Roma had been targetting a move for the attacker, and even ready to end Leon Bailey’s loan to make space for Zirkzee. So far, they have not managed to convince Manchester United over a deal, with the Red Devils likely to sell him if they can get around €40 million for the attacker.
There were reports AS Roma had proposed a €40 million package, although the report states they have made a loan proposal with a €30 million conditional buy obligation. Any chance of the move being made permanent would depend on the Italian giants qualifying for the Champions League, for which they are one of the favourites in Serie A.
Joshua Zirkzee to leave Manchester United?
Roma are growing in confidence about sealing the Zirkzee transfer, as the report further states that the two clubs could come to an agreement. Hence, Manchester United might get their wish of achieving closet to their asking price for the €40 million-rated Manchester United.
However, any deal must be agreed early as there’s a chance Roma could look at alternatives, amid links to Everton’s Beto, for instance. Zirkzee may not have a future at Old Trafford, and a move back to Italy might suit the €40 million-rated Manchester United in his quest to play regularly and give himself a good chance to be selected for the Netherlands squad for the World Cup.
