Real Madrid abandon Marc Guehi pursuit

Xabi Alonso’s Real Madrid have decided against making a move for Crystal Palace defensive mainstay Marc Guehi.

According to a report from DefensaCentral, Real Madrid have ruled out signing Marc Guehi in the upcoming transfer window. Los Blancos’ decision to abandon the pursuit of the English international is a massive boost for Liverpool, who have been working hard to sign the Crystal Palace skipper for some time.

Guehi is widely regarded as one of the best defenders in the Premier League. He has only gone from strength to strength since joining the Eagles from Chelsea back in 2021. His consistent performances have resulted in a lot of interest from across Europe.

Liverpool were on the verge of securing his services on deadline day last summer. But Oliver Glasner managed to block the move. While he ended up staying at Palace, he is not going to stay at Selhurst Park beyond this season.

His contract runs out at the end of the season, and Guehi has made it clear that he won’t be penning an extension. He reportedly has a gentleman’s agreement with the Merseyside club to join them as a free agent next summer.

While Liverpool look set to secure his services, Real Madrid could turn the tide in their favour with a move in January. With Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba’s contracts running out, the Spanish giants are looking to sign a new centre-back in 2026.

Real Madrid take a back seat in Guehi’s pursuit

Guehi is at the top of their wishlist as Florentino Perez is believed to be a massive admirer of the 25-year-old. Given his agreement with Liverpool, Real Madrid can’t afford to wait until the summer. Perez will have to intervene and make a move in January to secure his services.

Palace are set to lose him for free next summer; as a result, they could be open to a mid-season departure as it will help them raise a decent fee for one of their best player. While Los Blancos have the option to push for his signature in January, they are unlikely to make a move.

Perez is not usually keen on making moves in the winter window. He prefers waiting until the end of the season before making any big tweaks to his team. As a result, the team in white have ruled out the signing of Guehi.
