Juventus could offer Jonathan David in deal to sign Sandro Tonali

Serie A giants Juventus may offer Newcastle United the chance to sign Jonathan David in the deal involving Sandro Tonali next year.

According to a report by Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport, Sandro Tonali is the subject of interest from Juventus. The Serie A giants are eager to bolster their first-team squad by signing a midfielder next year. So, the 25-year-old Newcastle United mainstay has emerged as a top target for the Bianconeri.

However, a deal will not be straightforward due to the Lodi-born midfielder’s €7 million-a-year wages. The Italian heavyweights may have an ace up their sleeves, as they are ready to offer Jonathan David as a sweetener to tempt Newcastle United to part ways with Tonali next year.

How has Sandro Tonali fared at Newcastle United?

Sandro Tonali has established himself as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League since returning from his betting ban last season. The Lodi native has been with the Tyneside outfit for two and a half years, arriving from AC Milan in July 2023. However, he spent several months on the sidelines after breaching anti-betting regulations.

The ban did not affect the 25-year-old, whose performances in the middle of the park for Newcastle United have been top-notch. Tonali has made nearly 100 appearances for the Tyneside outfit thus far while chipping in with seven goals and seven assists. Meanwhile, the Italian midfielder remains a top target for several Serie A clubs, with Juventus among the prospective suitors vying for his signature.

Serie A return on the horizon?

Sandro Tonali has been on Juventus’s radar for a long time. The continued interest makes sense, as the Bianconeri will dip into the market for a versatile midfielder next year amid uncertainties surrounding the long-term futures of Fabio Miretti and Weston McKennie.

Tonali has thus emerged as a viable target for Juventus, with the Bianconeri looking to secure his services in the coming months. However, a deal will not be straightforward due to the Lodi-born midfielder’s €7 million-a-year wages. But the Serie A giants may have an ace up their sleeves, as they are ready to offer Jonathan David as a sweetener to tempt Newcastle United to sell Tonali next year.

If the deal involving David does not materialise, Juventus will have to sell a few players to afford a move for Tonali. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for the 25-year-old Italian international.
