Crystal Palace are considering making a move for Wolves midfield mainstay Joao Gomes in the upcoming transfer window.
According to Mike McGrath, Crystal Palace are keen on acquiring the services of Joao Gomes, as they look to reinforce their midfield mid-season. With Wolves bottom of the points table, the Eagles are plotting a raid on them for the highly sought-after midfielder.
Gomes came up the ranks at Flamengo and made a name for himself while playing for their first team before joining Wolves at the start of 2023. The player did not take long to adjust to life in the Premier League, and he has been one of the most consistent performers for them in recent seasons.
The 24-year-old Brazilian central midfielder has featured in a total of 108 matches, and he has even contributed towards 11 goals. While Joao Gomes prefers playing in the number eight role, he is equally effective as a defensive midfielder as well as a number ten.
His consistent performances have resulted in a lot of interest from rival clubs. Gomes penned a new deal at the start of 2025, which runs until the summer of 2030, and the Black Country outfit also have an option to extend his stay by another 12 months.
However, they will struggle to keep hold of him for long. Wolves are bottom of the points table, and surviving the drop will be very difficult for them. Getting relegated will certainly result in his departure, but there are clubs that are willing to try their luck in the upcoming transfer window.
Crystal Palace could test Wolves’ resolve
Crystal Palace are plotting a raid on Wolves mid-season for Joao Gomes. Oliver Glasner’s team have had a decent first half, and to bolster their chances of securing a European spot, they are looking at ways to bolster their squad.
The Eagles want more quality in the centre of the park, and the versatile Wolves star is a top target for them. While Crystal Palace are very keen on his signature, striking a deal with the relegation-threatened club won’t be easy. Wolves are unlikely to let go of one of their best players mid-way through the campaign.
While Gomes could be interested in making the switch, as it will allow him to jump off a sinking ship, Wolves won’t let the 24-year-old Brazilian go unless there is a crazy offer on the table, which might not be possible for Crystal Palace.
