Manchester United will reportedly turn to 19-year-old Ivory Coast international Yan Diomande from Bundesliga club RB Leipzig if they fail to sign Antoine Semenyo.
According to a report by talkSPORT, Yan Diomande is the subject of interest from Manchester United. The Red Devils are keen on reinforcing their offensive unit by signing a versatile wide attacker in the winter transfer window. So, the 19-year-old RB Leipzig winger has emerged as a target for the Premier League outfit.
Manchester United’s top target is Antoine Semenyo, with the Red Devils pushing for the 25-year-old Bournemouth attacker’s signature. However, the latest reports have revealed that the Ghanaian international wants to join Manchester City, compelling United to look elsewhere for a new wide attacker. However, the Ivorian will not come cheap, as he has a release clause worth £87 million in his contract with RB Leipzig.
Who is Yan Diomande?
Yan Diomande has established himself as one of the best young prospects in the Bundesliga since joining RB Leipzig from CD Leganes this past summer. A native of Abidjan, the Ivorian winger spent most of his formative years thus far in the USA before moving to Spain earlier this year. However, the youngster’s spell with CD Leganes ended after only six months, and he has hit the ground running at RB Leipzig.
The 19-year-old has been one of the most productive attackers for the Bundesliga club this season, scoring seven goals and providing four assists in 16 appearances in all competitions thus far. Meanwhile, his progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several Premier League bigwigs. Manchester United will be among the prospective suitors vying for the Ivory Coast international.
Premier League move on the horizon?
Manchester United’s interest in Yan Diomande is understandable. The Red Devils are scouring the market for a versatile wide attacker, as Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo are unavailable due to their participation at the Africa Cup of Nations. That has left Ruben Amorim short of quality options in the final third.
Additionally, a pacey wide attacker can be an option worth the wing-back slots. So, Antoine Semenyo emerged as the top target for Manchester United heading into the winter transfer window. However, the London-born winger is pushing to join Manchester City in the coming weeks.
So, Diomande has emerged as an alternative, with Manchester United considering a move. However, the 19-year-old Ivory Coast international will not come cheap, as he has a release clause worth £87 million in his contract with RB Leipzig. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for the young winger.
