Liverpool eyeing Igor Thiago after Alexander Isak injury

Liverpool are looking at Igor Thiago as a possible replacement for the injured Alexander Isak, as convincing Brentford will prove challenging.

According to Caught Offside, Liverpool are eying a move for Igor Thiago as a replacement for the injured Alexander Isak. The Reds are likely to face strong resistance from Brentford, who could feel selling the 12-goal Premier League forward would be a big mistake in the middle of the season.

Igor Thiago was a relative unknown when Brentford signed him from Club Brugge back in the summer to fortify their depleted frontline. Summer sales of Bryan Mbeumo and then Yoane Wissa made many of their fans wonder where the goals might come from, as they have been surprised by Thiago’s integration.

Keith Andrews certainly has put faith in the player, which has resulted in him scoring 11 goals in 17 Premier League appearances this season and 12 across all competitions. He has been one of the main reasons why Brentford have been a difficult team to beat this season, especially on home soil, and he will be one of the crucial parts in terms of where they might finish this term.

Given his prolific form in the Premier League, Thiago has already attracted plenty of clubs towards him ahead of the January window. Many of those are looking for proven solutions to improve their frontline, including the likes of Aston Villa and Tottenham.

Brentford are expected to resist offers for Thiago, although the 12-goal Premier League forward has a new suitor in the form of Liverpool. The Maerseyhsiders are set to be without Alexander Isak for the long haul following his injury against Tottenham, which could spark the Reds into signing a replacement for the Swede.

Is Igor Thiago achievable for Liverpool?

Without Isak, Liverpool are left with one recognised central striker in Hugo Ekitike, who has been picking up form of late. The Frenchman is now widely expected to be their main man up front mocing forward, but there are doubts whether he can play every game in what could be a tough second part of the campaign ahead.

Hence, a new attacker might be necessary for Liverpool to cover for Isak’s absence, as Thiago might be a solution in that regard. However, dealing with Nrentford could be an issue, as Liverpool are unlikely to pay over the odds, while the Bees will demand a premium fee if at all they are in a position where selling is the only option.
