Marc Guehi could have gentleman’s agreement with Liverpool

Liverpool might have a significant advantage over Barcelona and Real Madrid in their pursuit of Crystal Palace skipper Marc Guehi.

Marc Guehi’s future has once again become a big talking point as his contract runs out at the end of the season, and he will be free to negotiate a free contract with foreign clubs starting in January.

Barcelona and Real Madrid are both believed to be very keen on signing the Crystal Palace mainstays. But, according to Kaveh Solhekol via Sky Sports, Liverpool might have an advantage over the Spanish clubs, as Guehi could have a gentleman’s agreement to join the Merseyside club.

Since joining the Eagles from Chelsea back in 2021, the 25-year-old has not only established himself as one of their mainstays, but he is also widely regarded as one of the best defenders in England. With his contract running out, Liverpool were keen on signing him during the summer.

They were on the verge of securing his services on deadline day, but Palace pulled the plug in the final hours following Oliver Glasner’s request. Despite the failed move, the Reds retain interest in him and could even try to sign him in January.

While there is interest from other top clubs, the Merseyside club are believed to be front-runners for his signature as they may have a gentleman’s agreement with the 25-year-old.

Kaveh Solhekol on Marc Guehi’s next club

While talking about Guehi’s future, Solhekol said, “I think before Isak’s injury, the main priority for Liverpool this January was strengthening at the back. We know they’re definitely going to sign a new centre-back in 2026.

“Now, could it be Marc Guehi? I’ve heard talk that he may have a gentleman’s agreement with Liverpool, that he will sign for Liverpool. Of course, he almost signed for them until the deal collapsed on deadline day in the summer.

“But remember, in January, he will be free to talk to foreign clubs and Bayern Munich want him, Real Madrid want him. I think he’s on a target list for Barcelona as well. Barcelona head coach has said that they will be signing a centre-back as well.

“I think it would make sense for everyone if he leaves in the summer. I think he would get a better deal and also I think it would be better for Crystal Palace to hold on to him because they’ve still got a lot to play for this season.”

Despite Isak’s injury, Liverpool remain keen on signing a defender, and Guehi is their top priority. While selling him mid-season will help Palace raise some funds, they might actually try to block a winter exit and prefer letting him leave for free next summer, given how important he is to their team.

Spanish giants might struggle to sign Guehi

Meanwhile, Barcelona and Real Madrid are massive admirers of the English international, and they will certainly hold talks with his camp. With Andreas Christensen’s contract running out, Ronald Araujo on a break and Inigo Martinez no longer at the club, the Catalan giants are desperate to bring in a world-class centre-back, and Guehi could certainly help their cause.

Signing him for free next summer will certainly help them, given their current financial situation. Meanwhile, Los Blancos have an impressive record when it comes to signing free agents and with Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba’s contracts running out, Guehi could be the perfect replacement.

While interest from the Spanish giants will certainly appeal to him, Liverpool could still have the edge as they reportedly have a gentleman’s agreement with the English international, who was on the verge of joining the Merseyside club last summer.
