Newcastle United battle Crystal Palace in Sacha Boey race

Newcastle United have entered the race for Bayern Munich’s unwanted full-back Sacha Boye, with Crystal Palace also a firm contender.

According to Team Talk, Sacha Boey could be given a route into playing Premier League football in January, as Newcastle United and Crystal Palace battle it out for the 25-year-old Bayern Munich wide man. The French defender is available to leave the Bavarians, as he could seek to play football with regularity.

Sacha Boey was once linked with the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United, but he chose to sign for Bayern Munich back in January 2024. In the two years at the Bundesliga giants, the Frenchman has made only 37 appearances across all competitions, with most of those coming off the bench.

He is at best a squad player under previous managers as well as Vincent Kompany, with Bayern Munich reportedly ready to allow him a departure in January. The German giants are also open to the idea of a loan deal, which has certainly brought forward a few Premier League sides.

Crystal Palace are keen to sign Boey, as Oliver Glasner seeks immediate reinforcements in the right-back area following Daniel Munoz’s knee operation. The Colombian will miss around two months of action, as Glasner may not want to rely solely on Nathaniel Clyne to get the job done in what is deemed a crucial position in the team.

Palace have also identified Joao Mario as an alternative to Boey should they not manage to sign the 25-year-old Bayern Munich wide man. However, there have been reports stating the Eagles have already presented their offer to the French defender, which might seemingly give them an upper hand.

Are Newcastle United chasing Sacha Boey?

Newcastle United are the latest team to enter the race for Boey, as Eddie Howe is also seeking reinforcements in the full-back areas. Dan Burn suffered a broken rib and a punctured lung, while Emil Krafth is struggling to keep fit, which could see the manager force Valentino Livramento to play left-back.

Hence, they are in the market for a new right back, amid links to Chelsea outcast Axel Disasi, and now Boey. The 25-year-old Bayern Munich wide man could be a viable option, and the Magpies could potentially beat the likes of Crystal Palace if they can convince him to join them, especially now that they have Champions League football to offer.
