Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid are looking to beat Barcelona to the signature of Manchester United outcast Marcus Rashford.
According to a report from Fichajes, Atletico Madrid have entered the race for the signature of Marcus Rashford, as their manager, Diego Simeone, has urged the club to beat Barcelona to his signing. While the Catalan giants have a buy option in his loan move, the Madrid-based club could look to make the most out of their difficult financial situation.
After failing out with Ruben Amorim, Rashford spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa before joining Barcelona ahead of the ongoing campaign. The English international has managed to completely revive his career since making the move to Spain.
The 28-year-old has established himself as a key figure in Hansi Flick’s team. He has been involved in 23 matches across competitions and has contributed towards 18 goals (7 goals, 11 assists).
Following his impressive performances, Barcelona are seriously considering triggering the buy option in his loan deal. However, they are hesitant to activate the €30 million clause because of the impact it would have on their wage bill.
Atletico are looking to snatch Rashford from Barcelona
Meanwhile, Rashford’s game time has gone down in recent weeks following the return of some of their key players. Despite being one of their best players in the initial phase of the season, the English international now has a secondary role in the team. He isn’t pleased about it and could decide against making his move permanent amidst interest from Atletico Madrid.
The Madrid-based club are keeping a close eye on his situation. They see this as a great market opportunity and are moving quickly to explore the possibility of signing him on a permanent basis next summer.
Simeone is quite confident that Rashford could significantly bolster their attack. Meanwhile, the player will prefer being part of a project where he plays week in and week out. Atletico are treating him as a priority target for next summer. As a result, it will be interesting to see if they can get a deal over the line.
