AC Milan, Inter Milan express interest in Illan Meslier

Italian giants AC Milan and Inter Milan could battle it out for the signature of Leeds United shot-stopper Illan Meslier.

Illan Meslier’s future has been a big talking point for some time as his contract at Leeds United runs out at the end of the season. Despite being surplus to requirements at the Yorkshire-based club, there is still no shortage of interest in him.

According to a report from Football Insider, AC Milan and Inter Milan have both expressed interest in signing the French goalkeeper in the upcoming transfer window. They could even look to wait until the end of the season, when he will be available for free.

After coming up the ranks at FC Lorient and making a name for himself while playing for their first team, Meslier joined Leeds in the summer of 2019. It was an initial loan deal which was made permanent in the following summer.

Over the years, he has been an integral part of their plans. However, of late, things haven’t gone according to plan for him. He lost his place in Daniel Farke’s starting XI towards the end of last season and seems to have gone way down the pecking order since.

The 25-year-old is behind Lucas Perri and Karl Darlow in the pecking order, and with just 12 months left on his contract, his departure is almost certain. He could leave Elland Road in the winter or at the end of the season.

Both Milan giants want Meslier

Since he is no longer an important part of Farke’s plans, Leeds are not really worried about his contract situation. Despite his recent struggles, there is still a lot of interest in him. Giants like AC Milan and Inter Milan are interested in the French shot-stopper.

With Mike Maignan and Yann Sommer’s future uncertain, as their contracts run out at the end of the season, both Italian clubs are looking for a new goalkeeper. They consider Meslier a great market opportunity and seem willing to bet on him in January.

They will look for a bargain deal, but if that isn’t possible, both Milan clubs will look to wait until the summer, when he will be available for free.
