Serie A giants AS Roma are reportedly interested in signing 27-year-old Guinea-Bissau international Beto from Everton in the winter transfer window.
According to a report by reputed Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Beto is the subject of interest from AS Roma. The Serie A title hopefuls are keen on bolstering their offensive unit by signing a striker in the winter transfer window. So, the 27-year-old Everton centre-forward has emerged as a target for the Italian club.
Manchester United forward Joshua Zirkzee is AS Roma’s top target, with recent reports revealing talks between the two clubs over a January move. However, the Italian giants have kept their options open, with the Everton attacker emerging as an alternative. Genoa’s Jeff Ekhator is also an option for the Giallorossi.
How has Beto fared at Everton?
Beto has endured a topsy-turvy ride since joining Everton from Udinese in August 2023. The Lisbon native spent his formative years in Portugal, passing through the academies at Oeiras and SL Benfica while embarking on three spells with URD Tires, the club where he turned professional nearly a decade ago.
As for his stint with Everton, the player was in and out of the starting lineup in his first 18 months at Goodison Park before becoming a regular under David Moyes. However, the Guinea-Bissau international has struggled in the 2025/26 season, scoring only two goals in 18 appearances thus far. Meanwhile, the 27-year-old attacker’s stock in the market is high, with AS Roma among the prospective suitors vying for his signature.
Serie A return on the cards?
AS Roma’s interest in Beto is understandable. The Serie A title hopefuls are scouring the market for a striker heading into the winter transfer window, as Artem Dovbyk and Evan Ferguson have struggled to make their mark during their stints at Stadio Olimpico. Widespread reports have also linked the two AS Roma attackers with winter moves away from the club.
Several candidates, including Joshua Zirkzee, have thus emerged on AS Roma’s radar, with the Everton centre-forward also a viable target. Apart from the two strikers, Genoa’s Jeff Ekhator is also on AS Roma’s wishlist.
So, with the Italian giants keeping multiple options on their wishlist, a winter move for a striker is certain. As for pursuing Beto, with the 27-year-old Guinea-Bissau international previously showing his mettle in Serie A with Udinese, a deal may appeal to AS Roma.
