Manchester United are reportedly working on a deal to sign Conor Gallagher in January amid heavy interest in the Atletico Madrid star.
According to Team Talk, Manchester United remain in firm contention for the signature of Conor Gallagher, with the club reportedly working towards a deal. There are three or four other clubs from the Premier League who are interested in the Atletico Madrid star, who could make his return to England in January.
The World Cup and the idea of featuring for the national side in the grand tournament may have a detrimental effect on proceedings in the upcoming January window. Conor Gallagher might be a big story in that regard, as the Atletico Madrid star is desperate for England coach Thomas Tuchel to select him for the World Cup squad.
However, for that to materialise, Gallagher needs to play regularly, something he has not been afforded this season at Atletico Madrid. The midfielder, a €42 million signing from Chelsea in the summer of 2024, has failed to recreate his displays from last season, which has mostly rendered him an option off the bench under Diego Simeone in the current campaign.
Gallagher’s visible lack of game time could see the midfielder favour a return to the Premier League, where a host of sides, including Tottenham, Everton and Newcastle United, are showing an interest. Either of those teams would be in a position to offer him a prominent role in their squad, which might favour his cause.
Atletico Madrid might prefer a sale if he were to leave, but a loan deal is also in the realm of possibility. Hence, those Premier League sides like Everton, Tottenham and Newcastle United may have a chance, although it is Manchester United who are taking the steps forward in the race.
