Manchester United may look to sign 25-year-old Uruguayan international Maximiliano Araujo from Sporting CP next year after dispatching scouts to monitor him this season.
According to a report by TEAMtalk, Maximiliano Araujo is the subject of interest from Manchester United. The Red Devils are keen on reinforcing their defensive unit by signing a left wing-back next year. So, the Sporting CP wide player has emerged as a target, with the Premier League outfit dispatching scouts to track the Uruguayan international this season.
Who is Maximiliano Araujo?
Maximiliano Araujo has established himself as a pivotal figure for Sporting CP since arriving from Deportivo Toluca in August 2024. A native of Montevideo, the South American wide player spent his formative years in Uruguay, and graduated from the youth division at Montevideo Wanderers.
The 25-year-old has been a regular thus far for Sporting CP, making considerable progress in the last 18 months. Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim, during his spell with Sporting CP, saw the potential to play Araujo as a left wing-back, which has brought the best out of him.
The Uruguayan international has made over 50 appearances thus far for Sporting CP while chipping in with seven goals and nine assists. Meanwhile, Araujo’s progress has piqued the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe, with Manchester United among the prospective suitors vying for his signature.
Amorim reunion on the horizon?
Maximiliano Araujo has been on Manchester United’s radar for a long time. The continued interest is understandable, even though the Premier League bigwigs signed Patrick Dorgu in the winter transfer window this year. Additionally, Diego Leon arrived from South America a few months ago.
However, Dorgu has yet to establish himself as an undisputed first-choice starter, and Amorim wants more quality from the left flank.
