Kobbie Mainoo reportedly wants to join Real Madrid, which may come as a bitter blow for Barcelona’s chances on the midfielder
According to Defensa Central, Kobbie Mainoo reportedly prefers a switch to Real Madrid, which may be seen as a blow by Barcelona. The Spanish giants are both interested in the 20-year-old Manchester United whizkid, with reports stating he could leave Old Trafford sooner rather than later.
Kobbie Mainoo’s future is a big talking point at Old Trafford, as his situation remains unchanged from the summer. In the latter stages of the summer window, the midfielder requested that the club let him leave on loan, but the Red Devils hierarchy rejected the idea of keeping him.
The big issue for Mainoo is the lack of game time under Ruben Amorim, as Bruno Fernandes continued to occupy a key position on the pitch ahead of the 20-year-old Manchester United whizkid. Hence, he is keen to keep playing regularly, as back in the summer, there were a few teams ready to take him on loan, including Italian champions Napoli.
However, there had been hope that he would get to play regular minutes and gain some prominence in the side, which has not materialised in the right way. Manchester United are still reluctant to lose Mainoo ahead of the January window, although should a team make a considerable bid to sign him permanently, the club might consider.
Barcelona are one of those keeping close tabs on Mainoo’s situation, as they are ready to explore a move for the midfielder. Much like they did with Marcus Rashford, the Catalans could consider an approach that may suit their cause, although they face a major hurdle ahead.
Kobbie Mainoo wants a Real Madrid move?
A few reports earlier had indicated that Mainoo would prefer to join Real Madrid, and that remains the case as things stand in light of Barcelona’s interest. Florentino Perez maintains an interest in the 20-year-old Manchester United whizkid and remains confident about getting him at some stage, provided the conditions are right.
Hence, they might feel confident, and that may not be good news for Barcelona in their pursuit of Mainoo. It will be interesting to see how Manchester United deals with the 20-year-old’s situation, as there’s still a chance they could consider an exit in January.
