Oliver Glasner is keen on reinforcing his attack in January, and according to a report from Sky Sports, Crystal Palace are interested in Brennan Johnson, who is not having the best of times at Tottenham.
The Eagles are considering making an approach for the Welsh forward, as they look to add a versatile attacker to their ranks mid-season.
Johnson made a name for himself at Nottingham Forest. On the back of his impressive performances, the North London club forked out a massive £47.5 million to sign him in the summer of 2023. He was an integral part of their plans in the initial years.
The 24-year-old even bagged the winning goal in last season’s Europa League final. However, a lot has changed since the arrival of Thomas Frank. Johnson is no longer an important part of their plans, having started just six league games this term.
Despite his massive potential and his ability to feature anywhere in attack, Frank doesn’t seem to count on him. Tottenham are looking for a new winger in the winter market, and they are reportedly open to letting Johnson leave the club.
Crystal Palace could raid Tottenham for Johnson
Crystal Palace have emerged as a potential destination as Glasner seeks more quality in the final third. He wants to bring in a versatile forward to help cope with the absence of Ismaila Sarr, who is leaving for the Africa Cup of Nations.
While they do have other names on their wishlist, Johnson is certainly an interesting option for them, given the amount of top-flight experience he has and his age. They are ready to knock on Tottenham’s door as soon as the window reopens.
With the Welsh international’s contract running until 2028, Spurs will certainly demand a significant fee. While the Eagles do have the finances to get a deal over the line, it will be interesting to see if they consider the 24-year-old an ideal fit for their long-term project.
