Tottenham are unlikely to make a move for former Manchester United winger Mason Greenwood, but Barcelona remain keen on his signature.
Mason Greenwood has only gone from strength to strength since joining Olympique Marseille. He has been on fire this season, and it has resulted in him being linked with some of the biggest clubs in Europe. Despite having a long-term contract at the French club, the former Manchester United forward could be on the move in the near future.
Tottenham are one of the clubs that have been linked with the 24-year-old in the recent past. However, according to a report from TEAMtalk, the North London club are unlikely to make a move for the versatile forward because of his controversial history.
Greenwood revived his career with an impressive loan spell at Getafe, following which, he ended up joining Marseille permanently in the summer of 2024. So far, he has been involved in 56 matches and has contributed towards 45 goals.
He has bagged 13 goals and four assists in his 20 outings this season. His sensational performances have once again put the United graduate on the wishlist of some top clubs. While his contract at the French club runs until 2029, the 24-year-old could be interested in taking the next step in his career.
Tottenham won’t pursue Greenwood; Barcelona could
Tottenham are one of the clubs that seem interested in his signature. With Brennan Johnson likely to leave the club in the near future, he could have been an ideal replacement. Meanwhile, Greenwood’s ability to feature anywhere in attack could have come in handy with them struggling in the final third.
While Spurs would have loved to bring him back to England, the chances of him securing a return are very unlikely given how things ended last time out. It could result in a lot of backlash from the fans, and North London would like to avoid any such situation.
Spurs might not make a move for him, but he could end up moving to La Liga, where giants Barcelona are keen on his signature. The Catalan giants seek more firepower in the final third, and the 24-year-old could be a great long-term option for them. Hansi Flick’s team have been keeping tabs on him for some time, and it will be interesting to see if they actually make a move for him.
