Marc Guehi optimistic of joining Liverpool as Barcelona establish contact

Arne Slot’s Liverpool have received a massive boost in their pursuit of Crystal Palace defensive mainstay Marc Guehi.

Barcelona are looking to hijack Liverpool’s move for Marc Guehi. But according to a report from TEAMtalk, the Reds have a massive advantage in their pursuit, as the Crystal Palace skipper is still hopeful of fulfilling his childhood dream of playing for the Merseyside club.

While things didn’t work out for Guehi at Chelsea, he has only gone from strength to strength since moving to Selhurst Park back in 2021. Not only has he established himself as one of their mainstays, but the 25-year-old is also widely regarded as one of the best defenders in England.

Following his impressive performances, Liverpool were keen on signing him during the last summer window. They were on the verge of securing his services on transfer deadline day in a deal worth £35 million. However, the move collapsed following Oliver Glasner’s intervention.

With his contract running out at the end of the season, and Guehi rejecting two renewal offers, his departure is almost certain. The 25-year-old could walk away as a free agent next summer, but Palace would prefer raising around £30-35 million in the upcoming winter transfer window.

Barcelona are the ones who are hoping to secure his services on a free transfer next summer. They seek more quality at the back, and consider this a great opportunity to sign a world-class defender without hampering their already delicate financial situation.

Liverpool are still front-runners to sign Guehi

They have been in touch with his representatives twice in the past fortnight as they look to lure him. Although they are ready to guarantee him a starting role and offer him significant wages as they try to hijack Liverpool’s move, Guehi still seems to have his heart set on a move to Anfield.

Despite the Reds’ ongoing struggles, he wants to fulfil his dream of playing for them. His stance is a massive boost for the Merseyside club, who are hoping to sign him in January to help revive their season. Talks between the two clubs are set to resume soon, and with personal terms unlikely to be a problem, a winter move looks very likely.
