Nuno Espirito Santo’s West Ham United are ready to sanction the departure of Guido Rodriguez in the upcoming transfer window.
Guido Rodriguez’s future has been a big talking point for months. With his contract running out at the end of the season, his departure was almost certain. But according to a report from TEAMtalk, West Ham United are not looking to wait until the summer; they are ready to part ways with the Argentine international in January.
Following an impressive spell at Real Betis, Rodriguez joined the Hammers in the summer of 2024 on a free transfer. While the London club had a lot of expectations from the veteran midfielder, he hasn’t been able to live up to the expectations.
He has failed to impress Nuno and has found himself on the bench in the majority of their fixtures. He has only been involved in four matches across competitions. The 31-year-old recently made his second league start of the season against Brighton in their last outing.
Since he is not an important part of their plans going forward, West Ham are not even considering handing him a new deal. He is set to be a free agent after the end of the season.
Rodriguez is set to leave West Ham
Of late, they have started considering letting him leave in the upcoming transfer window. While they are unlikely to raise any funds from his departure, it will certainly make room on their wage bill, allowing them to sign a few of their transfer targets in January.
If they fail to find him a new club in the winter, they would be willing to let him stay until the end of the season. However, they would prefer an exit in the winter window, as they could then look to add more quality to their midfield.
While Niclas Fullkrug is almost certain to leave in January, Rodriguez should also follow him on his way out. The duo are on hefty wages, and their departure could help Nuno bring in players who can help him better implement his style of play.
