Kalvin Phillips ready to leave Manchester City, will seek foreign move

Liverpool express interest in Kalvin Phillips.

Kalvin Phillips is ready to leave Manchester City in the upcoming transfer window, and he appears set for a move away from England.

According to Pete O’Rourke via Football Insider, Kalvin Phillips is gearing up to leave Manchester City in the upcoming transfer window as he looks to get his career back on track. The English international could look to move to a different league in Europe in hopes that a change in scenery could help his cause.

After coming up the ranks at Leeds United and making a name for himself while playing for their first team, the 30-year-old joined Pep Guardiola’s team in the summer of 2022 in a deal worth £42 million. Unfortunately, the move has not gone according to plan for him as he has failed to establish himself in their first team.

In hopes of reviving himself, the English international had loan spells at West Ham and Ipswich Town. But even those didn’t work out for him. While he is back at his parent club, where he still has well over two years left on his deal, Phillips is not a part of Guardiola’s plans.

Kalvin Phillips is ready to leave Manchester City in January

As a result, the Englishman has only been on the pitch for seven minutes so far. Manchester City are ready to sanction his departure when the transfer window reopens. They won’t mind a temporary or a permanent departure, and even the player is open to both possibilities.

While speaking about the Leeds graduate’s future on the Inside Track podcast, O’Rourke said, “Look, for Kalvin Phillips, I think he probably needs to move on from City in the January window and get back to playing.

“He’s not played enough over the last couple of seasons, he’s had disappointing loan spells at West Ham and Ipswich, so Phillips could be tempted by a move abroad. I’m sure there’ll be a number of European clubs who would be interested in taking the former England international potentially on a loan deal.

“I think that might be something that would be of interest to Phillips as well. He’d like to go and try a new challenge somewhere else and get his career back on track, because it’s stalled over the last couple of seasons.”

Phillips is set to leave England

While Leeds United have been linked with him, the Yorkshire-based outfit are not considering re-signing him at this point. Phillips is set to leave Manchester City, and given how little he has played since joining the Manchester-based giants, the 30-year-old needs to join a club where he can play week in week out.

Staying in England has been his preference over the years. However, it seems he is finally ready to make the move away. Despite his recent struggles, multiple European clubs would be keen on his signature. O’Rourke believes Phillips would be open to trying out a new league on a temporary basis, as he looks for ways to get things back on track after years of struggle.
