Greek teenager Christos Mouzakitis could lean towards joining Real Madrid over Manchester United as speculation over his future continues to mount.
According to Football Insider, Manchester United may lose out in the race for Christos Mouzakitis amid concerns the player prefers a switch to Real Madrid. The Greek teenager has made the necessary impact to have clubs of that stature make their interest known, as Olympiacos anticipate approaches ahead of January.
Christos Mouzakitis has made a big impact on proceedings with his mature performances for Olympiacos at a tender age. The 18-year-old Greek prodigy is already seen as a big option by many of the top teams on the continent, including Manchester United and Real Madrid.
Both Manchester United and Real Madrid were sizing up offers for the teenager, as Mouzakitis is primed to leave Olympiacos ahead of the January transfer window. Starting with the Red Devils, they are in the market for a young midfielder to build their squad for the future.
They are not necessarily looking only at teenagers, as Elliot Anderson and Carlos Baleba are mentioned as targets over the last many months. The chances of landing either of those targets seem unlikely in January, which has led them to pivot towards someone like Christos Mouzakitis. Manchester United had scouted the 18-year-old Greek prodigy during Olympiacos’s recent encounter with Real Madrid in the Champions League.
Jason Wilcox was reportedly working on a deal to bring the teenager to Old Trafford ahead of January, but their chances are diminishing as things stand. The presence of Real Madrid may have a part to play in the equation, as Xabi Alonso reportedly likes the idea of Mouzakitis in his squad, and could push to get a deal for the Greek teenager.
Christos Mouzakitis to choose Real Madrid?
As per the report, Mouzakitis is ready to snub the interest from Manchester United as he prefers a switch to Real Madrid if the Spanish giants come calling. The idea of playing at the Bernabeu could have appealed to the 18-year-old Greek prodigy, who will push for a move if the chance comes by.
Benfica and FC Porto were also keen to test Olympiacos with an offer, although it appears Christos Mouzakitis is now angling for a switch to one of the big clubs in the world, namely Real Madrid. Hence, should the Greek teenager make the move to Spain, it will be a big blow for the likes of Manchester United, who may have done extensive work in the background to sign him.
