Barcelona hatch ploy to beat Liverpool, Real Madrid to Marc Guehi

Barcelona have plans to beat off competition for defensive target Marc Guehi by offering the Crystal Palace star a pre-contract in January.

According to Fichajes, Barcelona plans on accelerating their pursuit of Crystal Palace mainstay Marc Guehi in January. The Catalans are eager to beat the competition for the defensive target by offering the England international a pre-contract agreement and avoiding a transfer battle of sorts.

Next summer could see a big battle for the signature of Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi. The defender, considered one of the best in his position in the Premier League, is about to leave the Eagles on a free transfer once his contract expires, and already has a large number of clubs chasing for his signature.

The 25-year-old FA Cup winner with Palace has not signalled his intentions to stay at the club, as Liverpool had come extremely close to signing him on deadline day last summer. However, the Eagles pulled the plug on the agreed transfer to make him stay.

Liverpool were seen as the strongest contender after their initial failure to land him, but the road is not smooth for the Merseysiders. Real Madrid have Guehi on a list of three defenders available on a Bosman deal next summer, but they have since ruled out a move for Liverpool star Ibrahima Konate.

However, they could look at Guehi as a key addition, but he also faces competition from arch-rivals Barcelona in the chase. The Catalans are ready to hijack a move for the 25-year-old FA Cup winner from under Liverpool’s noses, as they consider Guehi as a massive market opportunity, although the Merseysiders are also considering a January approach.

What is Barcelona’s plan for Marc Guehi?

Barcelona are not eager to push ahead of the competition as they have devised a plan to lure the 25-year-old FA Cup winner. The Catalans want to avoid a transfer battle of sorts next summer and tie down Guehi to a pre-contract agreement in January.

Such a deal would suit Barcelona and their precarious financial situation, as acquiring a player of the 25-year-old’s quality will not require massive investment other than his wages. Hence, they are eager to defeat the competition for the player and get him to a pre-contract agreement before others jump in to sign him.
