Newcastle United considering January move for Lamine Camara

Newcastle United will reportedly look to sign 21-year-old Senegalese international Lamine Camara from Ligue 1 club AS Monaco in the winter transfer window.

According to an update by Turkish journalist Ekrem Konur, Lamine Camara is the subject of interest from Newcastle United. The Magpies are eager to bolster their first-team squad by signing a versatile midfielder in the winter transfer window. So, the 21-year-old AS Monaco prospect has emerged as a target for them.

The 2024/25 EFL Cup winners face stiff competition for the Diouloulou native, as “several other Premier League clubs and some Ligue 1 teams” are also keen on securing his services. However, AS Monaco will resist a January sale, leaving Newcastle United in a spot of bother.

How has Lamine Camara fared in Ligue 1?

Lamine Camara has been one of the best young prospects in Ligue 1 since joining AS Monaco from FC Metz last year. The 21-year-old had already risen in prominence during his spell with FC Metz, having been a standout performer in a dreadful 2023/24 campaign for the French club. However, his stock has soared after a solid 2024/25 season.

The Senegalese midfielder has made nearly 50 appearances thus far for AS Monaco while chipping in with two goals and ten assists. Meanwhile, Camara’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs. Newcastle United will be among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.

Premier League move on the horizon?

Newcastle United’s interest in Lamine Camara makes sense. The Magpies are scouring the market for a midfielder this summer amid uncertainties surrounding Joelinton’s long-term future. Additionally, Newcastle United will likely sanction Joe Willock’s departure in the coming weeks.

Several candidates, including Conor Gallagher, have thus emerged on Newcastle United’s radar, with Camara also a viable target. The 2024/25 EFL Cup winners are ready to launch a bid to sign the African midfielder in the winter transfer window. However, they are not alone in the race to sign Camara.

“Several Premier League clubs and some Ligue 1 outfits” are also vying for Camara’s signature, and recent reports have linked him with Tottenham Hotspur. However, AS Monaco will resist a January sale, leaving Newcastle United in a spot of bother. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for the 21-year-old Senegalese international.
