AC Milan are keen to explore a move for Jean-Philippe Mateta, with the Frenchman reportedly open to the idea amid his Crystal Palace contract limbo.
According to TEAMtalk, Jean-Philippe Mateta is a serious target for AC Milan in the near future, with the French international striker reportedly open to the idea of a switch to San Siro. There are concerns over Crystal Palace’s ability to hold on to the star, with the Eagles set to demand at least £35-40 million.
From being labelled as a journeyman to one of the in-form strikers in Europe in a span of 18 months, Jean-Philippe Mateta has managed to capture the imagination of a few top clubs. The striker has had a terrific time, specifically under Oliver Glasner, who will be distraught at the prospect of losing the Frenchman.
Mateta is steadily making his mark as a top-notch late bloomer in the game, as several sides have shown interest, including a few top teams in the Premier League. Tottenham have been linked with a move, but their current options make it difficult for another striker addition.
Arsenal and Liverpool are also rumoured to be interested in Jean-Philippe Mateta, although a new striker is not a priority for either of those Premier League giants. Crystal Palace have been angling to tie Mateta down to a new deal, and for now, they are unlikely to sanction a winter sale.
Crystal Palace are steadily losing hope of keeping Mateta, with the report clearly stating there are issues in agreeing on a new deal. The Eagles have not made an offer close to what the player’s camp wants, which could pave the way for suitors to come into the picture.
AC Milan angling for Mateta swoop
AC Milan are now serious about landing Mateta in the future, as Massimiliano Allegri has been keen to sign a new striker to replace Santiago Gimenez. As per the report, the £35-40 million-rated star is ready to take the leap and join the San Siro outfit in the near future, as the move seemingly suits his career.
Signing Jean-Philippe Mateta would be a big statement of intent from Milan in their bid to regain Serie A supremacy, with the Frenchman clearly showing signs of becoming even more lethal in front of goal. It remains to be seen whether Palace makes a concerted effort to keep hold of the Frenchman with a better contract offer, as Glasner considers him crucial for their plans.
