Manchester United will reportedly compete with Arsenal and Crystal Palace in the race to sign 20-year-old French defender Jeremy Jacquet from Ligue 1 club Stade Rennais.
According to an update by Turkish journalist Ekrem Konur, Jeremy Jacquet is the subject of interest from Manchester United. The Red Devils are scouring the market for a centre-back and have set their sights on the Stade Rennais whizkid. Meanwhile, Arsenal and Crystal Palace are also keen on signing the 20-year-old defensive sensation.
Who is Jeremy Jacquet?
Jeremy Jacquet has established himself as one of the brightest young prospects in Ligue 1 since breaking into the first-team squad at Stade Rennais. The Bondy native spent his formative years in France, passing through the academies at AS Outre Mer du Bois l’Abbe and Joinville RC before graduating from the youth division at Stade Rennais. Meanwhile, the Frenchman has enjoyed his breakthrough at the Ligue 1 club this term.
The French defensive sensation has made 12 appearances thus far in the 2025/26 season, becoming a regular for Stade Rennais. Meanwhile, Jacquet’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs. Arsenal, Crystal Palace, and Manchester United are among the prospective suitors vying for the 20-year-old defender’s signature.
A man in demand
The promising Stade Rennais defender emerged on Arsenal’s radar during the summer transfer window. However, the continued interest is surprising, as Mikel Arteta has a stacked central defensive unit. So, it is unclear how Jacquet will fit the scheme of things at Arsenal unless they part ways with at least one centre-back.
Meanwhile, Crystal Palace’s interest in Jeremy Jacquet is understandable. The Eagles are scouring the market for a long-term replacement for Marc Guehi, who has entered the final 12 months of his contract and will depart from Selhurst Park next year. Several candidates have thus emerged on Crystal Palace’s radar, with Jacquet also a viable target.
As for Manchester United, the Red Devils may dip their toes in the market for a centre-back next year, as Harry Maguire is on the wrong side of 30. While the English international has been resurgent under Ruben Amorim, Manchester United should begin the veteran defender’s succession plan. So, Jacquet is an option worth considering, with Manchester United scouting the Frenchman.
Apart from the three Premier League clubs, RB Leipzig will also attempt to sign Jacquet from Stade Rennais next year. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for the promising French defender.
