Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has reportedly urged the club to hand their midfield mainstay Casemiro a new deal.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Ruben Amorim would love to continue working with Casemiro beyond the ongoing season. The Portuguese tactician has urged the Manchester United board to extend his stay at the club. However, a lot will depend on the financial side of things.
After winning it all with Real Madrid, Casemiro moved to Old Trafford in the summer of 2022 in a deal worth £70 million. He had an exceptional debut campaign. However, the 33-year-old has been a bit inconsistent since.
Casemiro’s revival under Amorim
While he was not really in Amorim’s plans initially, the Brazilian international has worked his way back. He has been a constant feature in their XI of late. The former Real Madrid star has started nine out of their 11 Premier League games and has contributed towards four goals.
Casemiro has become an integral part of the Portuguese manager’s plans, and he is keen on having him at the club beyond this season. The Brazilian international’s contract runs out next summer. While Manchester United do have an option to extend it by another 12 months, they are unlikely to opt for it.
The Premier League giants would love to renegotiate a deal with the Brazilian midfielder, as they can afford to continue paying him his current wages. He is currently the highest-paid player at the club, and United are determined to change that.
Romano on a potential new deal
While speaking about Casemiro’s future, Romano said, “Casemiro is working hard and is becoming once again in his career a crucial player for the manager. So, in this moment, he is really important for Ruben Amorim, but there will be a conversation about his contract because at the moment, the numbers of his contract, salary is way too high for Manchester United to extend that.
“Or they find a solution on the contract, and this is Casemiro and for Harry Maguire, or the player could leave on a free. So, Casemiro always received many proposals, especially from the Middle East, especially from Saudi.
“Casemiro remains a target for many clubs there, but at the moment, it depends on financials, on the salary. Casemiro is fully focused on the pitch now, he wants to help Man Utd in this moment, but his situation will depend on the salary. Amorim would love to continue with Casemiro, but again, this depends on the salary discussions.”
Amorim is absolutely delighted with the work Casemiro has put in to get back to his best. Given his performances so far this season, the Portuguese manager is desperate to have him around, and he is well aware of the increasing interest in the 33-year-old, especially from the Middle East.
While the United boss has asked the club to extend his stay, and Manchester United seem willing to do that, it will all come down to Casemiro’s willingness to pen a new deal on lower wages.
