Liverpool are preparing a €40 million offer for Club Brugge star Joel Ordonez ahead of the January window to solve their defensive issues.
According to Bola, Joel Ordonez is becoming one of the key transfer targets for Liverpool ahead of the January window. The Reds are reportedly preparing a €40 million offer for the Ecuadorian defender ahead of the winter months, to solve their defensive issues.
Liverpool certainly needed a new defender back in the summer, and did fail with a late move for Marc Guehi. The Reds were widely expected to return for the Crystal Palace star in January or next summer, but they are no longer the favourites to land the England international ahead of the near future.
Overall, the Reds need a new centre-back in January, owing to the start to the new season they have had. Arne Slot’s side have been exposed at the back, and they have limited options after summer signing Giovanni Leoni suffered a season-ending knee injury earlier in the campaign.
Hence, they are in the market, which some of their supporters might state would be an emergency signing of sorts. Liverpool really needs someone strong in the right defence that offers something of an alternative to current choices like Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate.
The latter is widely expected to leave the club on a free amid big interest from elsewhere and an exciting contract. Hence, Liverpool does need a new centre-back in their ranks immediately, and the January window might be a good time, as they are now targeting Ecuadorian defender Joel Ordonez.
Liverpool readying Joel Ordonez offer
Liverpool are ready to make a €40 million offer for Ordonez ahead of the January window to test Club Brugge’s resolve on the player. There are others in the mix and interested in taking the South American defender, but Liveporool’s big presence could shift the equation towards them in the race.
Liverpool could make do with a player of the Ecuadorian’s quality, but they must convince his club as well as his camp over a move to Merseyside. The January window could be big for the club as they look to get back in the race for major honours, and it’s clear they need a new presence at the back for the present and the future.
