Andrew Robertson tipped to join Atletico Madrid if he leaves Liverpool as free agent

Atletico Madrid will try their best to sign Andrew Robertson if the left-back leaves Liverpool on a free transfer next summer.

According to Fichajes, Atletico Madrid are still very much interested in signing Andrew Robertson next summer. The Spanish giants will make a concerted effort to bring the Scottish left-back if he does not sign a new deal at Liverpool and leaves as a free agent next summer.

Andrew Robertson’s future was in considerable doubt during the summer window, as the club signed Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth. Since the new season began, Arne Slot has tried to shoehorn the Hungarian as his starting left-back, but Robertson has had his moments in times of trouble.

However, the long-term view remains in favour of Kerkez, as there are doubts whether Liverpool will extend Robertson’s deal moving forward. The Scottish star’s current contract expires at the end of the season, which does make him one of the attractive free agents in the market.

There have been reports stating that Liverpool could potentially offer a new deal to Robertson, but the club are currently prioritising fresh terms for other stars in the squad. Hence, there are considerable doubts about his future at Anfield beyond the current season, as he will be a free agent next summer.

Atletico Madrid were keen back in the summer, and Robertson did indicate he might have been open to making the switch. The Spanish giants were reportedly open to paying a decent transfer fee back in the summer, but now they are eager to land him on a Bosman deal.

Atletico Madrid will accelerate Andrew Robertson’s pursuit

Atletico Madrid have concluded that they will want to pursue the Liverpool veteran in a concerted way, especially if he does not renew his deal with the English side. The Bosman deal makes it an attractive proposition for the Spanish giants, who have done some similar deals for older players in the past.

Diego Simeone would be eager to add to his defence, and values the experience that players like the Liverpool veteran bring to the table. Hence, Atletico Madrid are eager to land him on a free transfer, as they want to avoid paying a transfer fee for Robertson.
