AS Roma eyeing winter loan move for Joshua Zirkzee

AS Roma are interested in signing Joshua Zirkzee on loan in the January window, with the attacker likely to approve a departure.

According to The Times, AS Roma are prepared to make an approach to take Joshua Zirkzee on loan in the winter transfer window. The Dutchman is eager to play regularly in a World Cup year, and currently, he is growing frustrated with the lack of regular minutes at Manchester United.

The Joshua Zirkzee experiment has not gone to plan for Manchester United, with the Dutch attacker failing to perform at the required levels. He did come in for plenty of criticisms last season for some abject performances, and while he has shown his talent in flashes, the player is yet to justify the £36.5 million outlay the Red Devils made to sign him from Bologna in the summer of 2024.

With Manchester United bringing in Benjamin Sesko after allowing Rasmus Hojlund to leave, reports were stating Zirkzee could have been the one departing during the summer. As he was also nursing an injury for a large part of the window, Manchester United may have found it difficult to offload him in those circumstances.

Despite staying put and returning fit, Joshua Zirkzee has not found regular game time under Ruben Amorim, which has opened speculation surrounding his future ahead of January. There are teams from Italy that are interested in the attacker, with Juventus reportedly plotting a move for the Dutchman.

Premier League teams are also keen, although it is believed that Zirkzee would prefer a switch to a European team instead. As per the latest on the £36.5 million attacker’s situation, Gian Piero Gasperini at AS Roma wants Zirkzee at the club in January, with the Serie A giants now plotting a loan move.

Joshua Zirkzee could make AS Roma move

AS Roma are eager to bolster their attack, and the idea of targeting a move for Zirkzee would make sense considering the Dutchman knows the Serie A very well. However, there’s a matter of cracking a deal with Manchester United, as a loan makes more sense rather than signing him permanently. Much will depend on the Red Devils on whether they are willing to let the attacker leave.

Allowing Zirkzee a move would effectively weaken Manchester United’s attacking setup unless they can bring in a replacement, as this could be a decisive factor. As for the Dutchman, he is keen to play regularly to strengthen his chance of making it to the Netherlands national side for the World Cup, as currently the prospects of that happening with his plight at Manchester United are weak.
