Aston Villa will reportedly look to sign 27-year-old Malian international Amadou Haidara from Bundesliga club RB Leipzig in the winter transfer window.
According to an update by Turkish journalist Ekrem Konur, Amadou Haidara is the subject of interest from Aston Villa. The Villans are keen on reinforcing their first-team squad by signing a versatile midfielder in the winter transfer window. So, the 27-year-old RB Leipzig midfielder has emerged as a target for the West Midlands outfit.
However, Aston Villa will not be alone in the race to sign Haidara, with Napoli also keen on securing his services in the winter transfer window. Meanwhile, a January exit is on the cards for the RB Leipzig utility man, as the Bundesliga giants are ready to part ways with him “to reduce wage costs with his departure” in the coming weeks.
Amadou Haidara and his time with RB Leipzig so far
Amadou Haidara has endured a topsy-turvy ride since joining RB Leipzig from sister club Red Bull Salzburg in January 2019. A native of Bamako, the 27-year-old spent his formative years in Mali, starting his youth career with Guidars FC before graduating from the division at JMG Academy Bamako.
Meanwhile, the Malian international has made over 200 appearances thus far for RB Leipzig while chipping in with 15 goals and 13 assists. However, Amadou’s long-term future at the Bundesliga club is uncertain, as they are ready to part ways with him to reduce their wage bill. The situation has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs, including Aston Villa.
Premier League move on the horizon?
Aston Villa’s interest in Amadou Haidara is somewhat perplexing but understandable. The Villans are scouring the market for a versatile midfielder heading into the winter transfer window, as widespread reports have linked Youri Tielemans with a move away from Villa Park.
Several candidates, including Yehor Yarmolyuk, have thus emerged on Aston Villa’s radar, with Haidara also a viable target. However, the West Midlands club will face stiff competition from Napoli for the former Red Bull Salzburg midfielder’s signature.
Meanwhile, the 27-year-old Malian international may have no future at RB Leipzig, as the Bundesliga giants are ready to part ways with him “to reduce wage costs with his departure” in the coming weeks. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for Haidara.
