Tottenham will prioritise a new goalkeeper next year to upgrade on Guglielmo Vicario after some glaring errors from the keeper.
According to a report by TEAMtalk, Tottenham will prioritise signing a new goalkeeper next year, probably in the summer, to plans to replace error-prone mainstay Guglielmo Vicario. The Italian shot-stopper’s position is not in danger at the moment, although Thomas Frank would want someone more assured and in line with his ideas.
Guglielmo Vicario made a stellar start to life as Tottenham’s new goalkeeper in the 2023/24 season, but his levels have been inconsistent since. Injuries have also played a part, especially the one suffered last season, which does make the fans wonder if the Italian is the right choice moving forward.
Vicario has been a top performer without a doubt, but he has made a few high-profile errors that have come to cost points. Hence, Thomas Frank could be of the opinion to bring in an upgrade in the near future to add competition for the position between the sticks.
This is not the first time Tottenham have thought about the position, as there were links to Toulouse stopper Guillaume Restes back in the summer. Whether the same name remains on their list moving forward is a question for the future, but overall, Guglielmo Vicario’s position in the team does not come with guarantees.
There were some links with AC Milan back in the summer amid the uncertainties surrounding Mike Maignan’s immediate future. The Rossoneri could be in the mix for the Spurs stopper in the future, with the North Londoners now looking to plans to replace the error-prone mainstay.
Thomas Frank wants a solid option between the sticks
In the aftermath of the win over Leeds United, where Vicario made a howler, media reports were quick to speculate on the keeper’s future. As it stands, Tottenham may not actively look for solutions in the market to plans to replace the error-prone mainstay, as they might wait until the end of the season.
Vicario is currently Tottenham’s No.1 choice, although that could change if he does not improve his performances moving forward. For now, no concrete names have been discussed as a potential replacement for the Italian, although there could be a few mentions as the summer window gets closer.
