Leeds United have been linked with a move for 29-year-old Italian international Lorenzo Pellegrini, who has no future at AS Roma.
According to a report by Football Insider, Leeds United have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Lorenzo Pellegrini. The Italian international is expected to leave AS Roma soon, and it remains to be seen whether they can get the deal done.
The Whites are monitoring his situation, and he is in the final year of his contract. The former AS Roma captain has not signed an extension with the Serie A outfit, and he could move on soon. It will be interesting to see if Leeds United can get the deal done in the coming weeks.
Pete O’Rourke said, “Potentially if he [Lorenzo Pellegrini] was on Leeds’ list previously, I’m sure they’ll have continued to monitor his situation at Roma. It’s an interesting moment because he’s in the final year of his contract at Roma and it does seem that Roma could be willing to let him move on.
“This January will probably be their last opportunity to cash in on Pellegrini and again, it looks like he doesn’t really figure in their plans going forward for whatever reason. There’s been a bit of unrest between him and the club’s fans as well. Sure, if a decent offer was to come in for Pellegrini, it’s something they were considering in January.”
Signing a player of his quality and experience on a bargain would be a masterstroke. AS Roma will be under pressure to sell him as well, as they will not want to lose him as a free agent. The Giallorossi should look to sell him for a reasonable amount of money in January and invest it into the playing squad.
As for Leeds United, they have endured a mixed bag of start to the season, and they will look to bounce back strongly. The West Yorkshire outfit will be desperate to cement their place in the Premier League. The Whites will not want to go down to the EFL Championship at the end of the season, and they need to improve the squad in January to perform at a higher level.
Leeds United need more creativity and goals from the middle of the park, and the 29-year-old Italian could be the ideal acquisition. A move to the Premier League could be an exciting opportunity for him at this stage of his career. Meanwhile, recent reports have also linked Pellegrini with other Premier League clubs, including West Ham United.
