Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario has been linked with a move away from the club in recent weeks.
Guglielmo Vicario has had his fair share of criticism since joining the club. He can be prone to making errors every now and then, and there have been rumours that Tottenham could replace him. However, a report from Graeme Bailey on TBR Football has claimed that they are not looking to sell the Italian any time soon.
The Italian is a good goalkeeper, and there is scope for improvement. If he can cut out the mistakes from his game, he could become one of the best keepers in the league. Tottenham are prepared to be patient with him. Spurs paid €20 million when they signed Vicario from Empoli, but he has been error-prone since then, including a mistake he made a mistake against Leeds United, which could have been costly.
Discussing Guglielmo Vicario’s situation, Bailey, “Vicario has taken criticism from the fanbase, but it is not seen as an area of huge worry – that is not to say Spurs aren’t keeping abreast of goalkeeping options, but he really isn’t seen as a major weak link at this point. Like with every position, they will continue to assess, but it is not a concern for them.”
Spurs will aim for a successful season
Tottenham are keeping tabs on other potential goalkeeping options, including Guillaume Restes. However, they do not see it as a priority area to reinforce. The North London outfit have started the season well under Thomas Frank, and they will be hoping to fight for trophies this season. It will be interesting to see if they can win another cup.
Spurs have recently won the UEFA Europa League, and they have put together a talented squad. Tottenham have done well under their new manager, Thomas Frank, in the Premier League, and it remains to be seen how the season unfolds.
The North London outfit will certainly hope that their first-team players can cut out the mistakes from their game and perform at a high level this season. Spurs are competing in the UEFA Champions League, and they will want to go deep into the competition as well.
Vicario will be fully aware of the fact that he has been inconsistent at times, and he will look to work on that. If the 28-year-old Italian shot-stopper can improve in the coming weeks, he could be an important player for Tottenham.
