Joe Gomez happy at Liverpool amid AC Milan links

Joe Gomez is reportedly happy with life at Liverpool, which has come as a blow to AC Milan’s chances of signing him in January.

According to Football Insider, AC Milan’s plans to pursue Joe Gomez have been dealt a severe blow as the defender has no plans to leave Liverpool. Arne Slot will look to keep the versatile star amid shortages in the area, as the Englishman is reportedly happy with life at Anfield.

Liverpool were left in a pile of heap following Crystal Palace’s late U-turn to keep hold of Marc Guehi despite agreeing to sell the defender on deadline day. The failure to sign the England international was a blow for the Premier League champions as they wanted to strengthen their backline.

The failure with Guehi left Arne Slot with Ibrahima Konate, Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and new arrival Giovanni Leoni as his centre-back options. The unfortunate ACL injury to the Italian defender has left Liverpool short at the back, while the form of Konate has come into question over the past few weeks.

For now, Slot continues to use Gomez sporadically, which had given AC Milan hope of pursuing him in January. The Rossoneri wanted Gomez in January, and they had made plans to approach, although Liverpool are unlikely to entertain offers for players in the weakest side of their squad.

Gomez was heavily linked with a switch to AC Milan in the latter stages of the window but ended up staying at the club. At the time, there were some uncertainties over the arrival of Guehi, as the decision to keep the 28-year-old Liverpool utility man proved vital.

Joe Gomez is happy at Liverpool

Joe Gomez is happy with life at Liverpool as he does not want to make a hurried decision to leave in the January window. While he is not the first choice for Slot, there is a big possibility of playing important minutes in the period ahead, as the 28-year-old Liverpool utility man continues to harbour hopes of playing for England at the World Cup.

With a contract at Liverpool lasting until 2027, the Merseyside club are in no real hurry to sell the 28-year-old in January. The summer window of 2026 could open new doors for the defender to decide his future, as a move to AC Milan could be back on the cards, particularly if they make the Champions League next season.
