Harry Maguire may be in line to seal a surprise move to the Saudi Pro League next year, with Al-Nassr and Al-Ettifaq keen on signing him.
According to a report by the Daily Mirror, Al-Nassr and Al-Ettifaq are interested in Harry Maguire. The Manchester United defender has entered the final 12 months of his contract, and a departure from Old Trafford is on the cards for him. The latest update has suggested that the English centre-back is in line for a “shock” Saudi Pro League move.
Harry Maguire and his Manchester United career so far
Harry Maguire has enjoyed a pleasing resurgence since Ruben Amorim took over from Erik ten Hag as the new head coach at Manchester United. The Englishman has been one of the most polarising figures for the Red Devils since arriving from Leicester City in a deal worth £80 million in August 2019, even though he has made his mark more often than not for the Premier League club.
The 32-year-old has made over 250 appearances thus far for Manchester United while chipping in with 16 goals and nine assists. However, Maguire’s long-term future at Old Trafford is uncertain, as he has entered the final 12 months of his contract with the struggling Premier League giants.
Recent reports have claimed that Manchester United may sanction Maguire’s departure from Old Trafford next year. The situation has piqued the attention of several well-known clubs. However, a move to the Saudi Pro League may be on the cards for the English international, with Al-Nassr and Al-Ettifaq keen on securing his services.
Saudi Pro League move on the horizon?
Recent reports have linked Harry Maguire with other Saudi Pro League clubs, including Al-Ahli. However, the interest from Al-Nassr is understandable, considering they recently parted ways with Aymeric Laporte, who has rejoined Athletic Club.
As for Al-Ettifaq, Saad Al-Shehri has half a dozen centre-backs in his squad. However, Maguire is a better defender than all of those players, justifying Al-Ettifaq’s interest in him. Additionally, the 32-year-old Englishman will be available for a cut-price fee if he moves in January.
A summer move may lead to a Bosman move, making Maguire an attractive target for the Saudi Pro League clubs. It will be interesting to see if the English international moves to Al-Nassr or Al-Ettifaq next year.
