Barcelona, Liverpool interest could turn Julian Alvarez head

Barcelona and Liverpool may tempt Julian Alvarez to seek a move away from Atletico Madrid, but the Colchoneros are reportedly confident of keeping the Argentine international.

According to a report by TEAMtalk, Barcelona and Liverpool are interested in Julian Alvarez. The two European bigwigs are keen on reinforcing their offensive units by signing a versatile attacker next year. So, the 25-year-old Atletico Madrid forward has emerged as a target for the Blaugrana and the Reds.

The report has suggested that the former Manchester City attacker “could be tempted to secure a blockbuster move in the future” after courting interest from Barcelona and Liverpool. However, that has not deterred Atletico Madrid, as the Colchoneros are “determined to keep him” while being uninterested in a winter sale.

Julian Alvarez and his time at Atletico Madrid so far

Julian Alvarez has established himself as one of the world’s best attackers since joining Atletico Madrid from Manchester City in a surprise big-money move worth €95 million last year. While the 25-year-old did not hit the ground running at Estadio Metropolitano, he has gone from strength to strength since becoming a pivotal figure for Los Rojiblancos.

The Argentine international has been hot off the blocks in the 2025/26 season, amassing seven goals and three assists in eight appearances across all competitions. Meanwhile, Alvarez’s exploits have not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several European bigwigs. Barcelona and Liverpool are among the prospective suitors vying for his signature.

A man in demand

Julian Alvarez has been on Barcelona’s radar for several months. The continued interest is understandable, as Robert Lewandowski is in the twilight of his career. So, the Blaugrana should plan for life after the veteran Polish striker. Alvarez has thus reportedly emerged as the priority target for Barcelona heading into next summer’s transfer window.

As for Liverpool, the Reds have also followed the 2022 World Cup winner’s progress for a long time. However, after signing Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak in the summer transfer window, it is unclear why Alvarez remains on Liverpool’s wishlist. Nevertheless, the Atletico Madrid talisman is a target, and the latest report has revealed that the two European bigwigs may turn his head.

Meanwhile, recent reports have pointed to Liverpool being ahead of Barcelona in the race to sign Alvarez. However, while the two European bigwigs are keen on signing the 25-year-old Argentine international, Atletico Madrid will not entertain any bids in the winter transfer window, and they are “determined” to keep him for the long haul.
