Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are looking to secure Jurrien Timber’s long-term future with a new deal.
According to a report from TBR, Arsenal are preparing a new lucrative deal for Jurrien Timber. The Gunners are looking to secure his long-term future, and at the same time, they want to reward him for his consistent performances.
Timber made a name for himself at Ajax before joining Arsenal in the summer of 2023. Unfortunately, the debut campaign didn’t go according to plan for him as he suffered an ACL injury on his debut and missed the majority of the season.
He returned to action last season and made the right back position his own ahead of Ben White. His consistent performances have helped him establish himself as a key figure in the team. He has started the new season in fine fashion, and Arsenal feel he is going to be one of their mainstays going forward.
While the 24-year-old still has three years left on his deal, the Gunners are aware of the increasing interest in his signature. In order to keep hold of the defensive sensation for years to come, the North London club are ready to hand him a new deal with much better terms.
A new deal for Timber is ready
Arsenal are very happy with the 24-year-old’s development as a player. Mikel Arteta is a huge admirer of Timber and, having pushed for his signing back in the day, the Spanish boss now wants a new deal for the Dutch defender.
While the majority of his appearances have come as a right-back, he is pretty comfortable playing anywhere at the back. William Saliba has put pen to paper on a new deal, Saka is also close to committing his future to the club, and Timber could also be on his way to signing an extension.
Andrea Berta has done wonders since arriving at the club. Not only were the Gunners very impressive during the summer window, but they have also made great progress with new contracts for some key players.
While they had other priorities, handing a new, improved deal to Timber was always on their agenda. Talks were pencilled in for before the end of the year. The Gunners will soon sit with the player’s representatives to hold talks over a contract that will make him one of the highest-paid players in their team.
Recovering from an ACL injury is never easy. Timber, who is inspired by Max Verstappen, has certainly put in the yards. Given the comeback he has made, he certainly deserves the new deal. Speaking after his return from injury, Timber talked about the kind of impact Versatppen has had on him. He said:
“Yeah, I like to look at winners, in the NBA you see them a lot.
“But for example, Max Verstappen as well, you see his interviews after games [races] and you’re like, ‘Wow, this guy is such a big winner’ and I just love to see that and I love to see his comments about things that have happened after a race.”
