Crystal Palace and West Ham United are reportedly keen on sealing a Bosman deal for 30-year-old Dutch right-back Rick Karsdorp, who has become a free agent since leaving PSV Eindhoven.
According to an update by Turkish journalist Ekrem Konur, Crystal Palace and West Ham United are interested in Rick Karsdorp. The two London clubs are surprisingly keen on reinforcing their defensive units by signing a right-back in a bargain deal. So, the 30-year-old wide player has emerged as a target for the Premier League outfits.
Rick Karsdorp and his career so far
Rick Karsdorp has struggled for stability in the last few years, and a short stint with PSV Eindhoven did not work as well as he would have liked. A native of Schoonhoven, the Dutchman spent his formative years in his homeland, starting his youth career at hometown club VV Schoonhoven before graduating from the academy at Feyenoord.
The 30-year-old rose in prominence during his spell with AS Roma, and he spent over half a dozen years with the Giallorossi. However, Karsdorp had run-ins with his managers at the Serie A club, particularly Jose Mourinho. The veteran full-back spent the 2024/25 season with PSV Eindhoven, but he has left the Eredivisie club after only one year.
The Dutch full-back managed only 1,090 minutes of game time across 20 appearances for PSV Eindhoven while chipping in with two assists. However, with Karsdorp now a free agent, the situation has piqued the attention of several clubs. Crystal Palace and West Ham United are among the prospective suitors vying for his signature.
London calling?
Crystal Palace’s interest in Rick Karsdorp is somewhat surprising yet understandable. The Eagles have one of the best full-backs in the Premier League, with Daniel Munoz making his mark in the last few years. However, with the South London outfit participating in an extra competition this season, they can do with another option on the right flank. So, Karsdorp is an option worth considering for Crystal Palace.
As for West Ham United, it is perplexing that the 30-year-old Dutchman is a target for the East London club. The Hammers sealed a Bosman move for Kyle Walker-Peters in the summer transfer window, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka is the other right-back in Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad. So, it is unclear how Karsdorp fits into the scheme of things at West Ham.
Nevertheless, the Dutch wide player is a target for West Ham, and the East London outfit will compete with Crystal Palace for his signature. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for Karsdorp after becoming a free agent.
