AC Milan line up €7 million move for Joe Gomez

AC Milan are preparing a €7 million bid in the hope of luring Joe Gomez away from Liverpool in the upcoming winter transfer window.

AC Milan were keen on signing a new central defender during the summer. They were linked with Manchester City’s Manuel Akanji. While they were on the verge of securing his services, his wage demands proved to be beyond their capabilities .The Rossoneri quickly shifted their focus towards Joe Gomez, but failed to strike a deal with Liverpool.

While AC Milan did end up signing David Odogu from VfL Wolfsburg, the Serie A giants are still in the market for a new central defender. According to a report from Italian outlet Milan Live, they are all set to return for the signature of Gomez during the winter transfer window.

Joe Gomez has been a part of the Liverpool setup since 2015. While he might not have been a regular starter, the 28-year-old has had a decent role in the first team. However, the Englishman has gone down the pecking order under Arne Slot, and his future has been a big talking point.

The experienced utility man seems keen on a move away in search of a more prominent role. While his contract runs until the summer of 2027, the Reds were ready to sanction his departure during the summer. AC Milan could have signed him on deadline day, but the Merseyside club eventually pulled the plug on the deal.

AC Milan to return for Gomez in the winter

AC Milan might have added David Odogu to their squad, but he is a completely different profile from the one they were looking for. As a result, they are expected to be back in the market for a new central defender in January, and Joe Gomez is at the top of their wishlist.

While a serious knee injury to Liverpool’s Giovanni Leoni could hamper their chances of signing the 28-year-old, things could work out in their favour if Arne Slot’s team end up signing Marc Guehi mid-season. The Crystal Palace captain was on the verge of joining them in the summer, and there are high chances of the Reds making a move again in the winter.

His arrival could open the door for Gomez to join Milan. The Crystal Palace mainstay’s arrival will push him further down the pecking order, and the Serie A outfit could look to make the most out of it. Igli Tare is expected to push hard for his arrival, and he is already in contact with Liverpool.

The Rossoneri could look to secure his services for just €7 million, and it could actually be the best solution for all parties involved. However, a lot will depend on how Liverpool go about their transfer business at the turn of the calendar.
