Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City have agreed a new deal with their Brazilian attacking sensation, Savinho, amidst interest from Tottenham.
According to Graeme Bailey via TBR Football, Savinho is all set to sign a new long-term deal at Manchester City. The Brazilian international has been persuaded to sign a six-year deal at the club following talks with Pep Guardiola and Hugo Viana.
The new deal is a massive blow for Tottenham, who were keen on his signature. After failing to sign him during the summer, they were hoping to return for his signature in the winter. But with him committing his future to City, they will have to look at alternatives.
Bailey on Savinho extending his stay at City
While speaking about Savinho’s new deal, Bailey said, “I am told that after the window closed, both Guardiola and Viana had lengthy talks with Savinho, where they underlined their belief to him that he has a major part to play.
“They have a huge belief in his talent and admiration for him as a person. Hearing the backing he has, Savinho has been persuaded that his future lies in Manchester.”
Following an impressive loan spell at Girona, Savinho joined City in the summer of 2024 from Troyes. Despite not being a regular starter, he did have quite an impact during his debut campaign in England. He was involved in a total of 48 matches and ended up contributing towards 16 goals (3 goals, 13 assists).
While he did rack up over 3,000 minutes of first-team action, the 21-year-old’s future was a massive talking point throughout the summer. Tottenham were keen on signing him and were ready to offer him a prominent role in the team.
Savinho’s failed Tottenham move
The Brazilian winger was interested in a move to North London, as he would be a guaranteed starter and would have a better shot at making it into Carlo Ancelotti’s squad for the World Cup. While the player was keen and Spurs made multiple offers, City didn’t sanction his departure.
Tottenham’s £69 million offer wasn’t enough to convince Guardiola’s team, as they couldn’t find an ideal replacement. Following the end of the window, City decided to hold talks with the 21-year-old about his long-term future.
While he still has four years left on his deal, the Manchester-based giants decided to hand him a new deal with fresh terms to secure his future. Guardiola and Viana assured him that he would be a big part of their future. As a result, Savinho has been persuaded to put pen to paper. A new six-year deal has been agreed on in principle, and soon it could be made official.
