Tottenham are looking at Maghnes Akliouche as an alternative to Savinho, with the latter now closing in on a new deal at Manchester City.
According to TEAMtalk, Maghnes Akliouche is the alternative target that Tottenham are set to pursue in the aftermath of the Savinho update. Spurs were intent on signing the Brazilian winger during the summer and had plans to pursue again in January, but now, the AS Monaco star is seen as a top alternative to the Manchester City prospect.
Thomas Frank will have been happy with the business Tottenham did during the summer. Many of their signings were with the intent of improving the attack, as the likes of Mohammed Kudus and Xavi Simons were seen as the headline names during a productive window.
Spurs wanted another option in the attack that could be as versatile as Simons and Kudus, albeit on the right side of the pitch. They had pursued Savinho as their priority target for this position, and after initial encouragement from his camp, which underlined the Brazilian’s desire to make the switch, Manchester City wanted to keep him.
Spurs were expected to pursue Savinho in January, but things have changed in that regard, primarily due to Manchester City’s stance. Savinho is now expected to sign a new deal at the Etihad, which all but ends Tottenham’s hopes of signing him.
The North Londoners had considered multiple alternatives to the Brazilian, including AS Monaco’s Maghnes Akliouche. The 23-year-old French international, who has one cap for his country, is seen as one of the promising talents coming out of Ligue 1, with Monaco always open to sales for the right price. Now, after the Savinho update, Spurs are already looking at the Frenchman as an alternative to the Brazilian.
Maghnes Akliouche is perfect for Tottenham
Considering the type of player Frank wants to improve his attacking setup, Akliouche could be the perfect signing. The 23-year-old French international can operate on the right wing as well as in a No.10 role, which is effectively what Simons does on the left-hand side.
Spurs had considered Maghnes Akliouche as a Savinho alternative during the summer, but the lateness of any deal was likely to prevent any move back then. However, ahead of January, Tottenham might make an approach for the AS Monaco prospect, in the hope of finalising a deal with Monaco.
