Liverpool, Newcastle United, and Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly joined Manchester United in the race to sign Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest.
According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Manchester United face competition from Liverpool, Newcastle United, and Tottenham Hotspur for Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson. However, the Tricky Trees have issued a hands-off warning to the English international’s suitors, as they are not ready to part ways with him anytime soon.
The rise and rise of Elliot Anderson
Elliot Anderson has established himself as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League since joining Nottingham Forest from Newcastle United in a deal worth £35 million last year. The Englishman spent his formative years in his homeland and graduated from the youth division at Newcastle United. However, the Tyneside outfit’s PSR struggles forced them to sell the 22-year-old to Nottingham Forest.
While the move was a setback for the English international, he has not looked back since joining the Midlands club, going from strength to strength in the last 14 months. Anderson has made nearly 50 appearances thus far for Nottingham Forest while chipping in with two goals and seven assists. The youngster’s exploits have piqued the attention of several high-profile clubs, including Liverpool, Manchester United, Newcastle United, and Tottenham Hotspur.
A man in demand
The Nottingham Forest midfielder has been on Liverpool’s radar for a long time. The continued interest makes sense, as the Reds need a colossal holding midfielder who can hold the fort in the middle of the park. So, Anderson has emerged as a viable target for Liverpool.
Meanwhile, Manchester United’s interest in Elliot Anderson is understandable. The Red Devils are desperate to sign a holding midfielder next year, as Casemiro is approaching the twilight of his career and Manuel Ugarte has failed to make his mark since arriving from Paris Saint-Germain. As for Newcastle United, the Magpies are aware of the youngster’s abilities, and re-signing him will help their transformation into a force in English football.
Tottenham Hotspur must also sign a holding midfielder, as Yves Bissouma has no future at the North London club. Additionally, Rodrigo Bentancur has entered the final 12 months of his contract with Tottenham. However, convincing Nottingham Forest to part ways with the 22-year-old Englishman will be a tall order.
The Tricky Trees have issued a “hands-off” warning to Anderson’s suitors, hoping to ward off Liverpool, Manchester United, Newcastle United, and Tottenham. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for the English international.
