Manchester United will let 25-year-old English international Jadon Sancho go for free next summer instead of triggering the option to extend his contract by a year.
According to a report by TEAMtalk, Jadon Sancho has entered the final 12 months of his contract with Manchester United. So, with the English international completing a season-long loan move to Aston Villa, the struggling Premier League giants are in a spot of bother over the prospect of recouping something from his permanent departure from Old Trafford next year.
However, Manchester United will not trigger the clause to extend the Englishman’s contract by 12 months. So, Aston Villa and other prospective suitors will have the opportunity to complete a permanent move for Sancho in a Bosman move next year.
Jadon Sancho and his latest Manchester United loan exit
Jadon Sancho has been one of the worst signings in Manchester United’s storied history, as he has barely made his mark since arriving from Borussia Dortmund in July 2021. Additionally, his conduct off the pitch has left much to be desired, with a run-in with Erik ten Hag two years ago sealing his fate at Old Trafford. The 25-year-old has not played for Manchester United since then, although he has yet to complete a permanent exit, spending the last 18 months on loan spells.
The English international showed flashes of brilliance during his loan stint with Chelsea before a permanent deal failed to materialise this past summer. While Manchester United wanted a permanent exit in the summer transfer window, the former Borussia Dortmund winger made things difficult for them with his insistence on picking his destination before sealing a deadline-day loan move to Aston Villa.
Sancho will hope to impress this season
Aston Villa’s interest in Jadon Sancho was understandable. The Villans were eager to bolster their offensive unit in the summer transfer window by signing multiple attackers, as Unai Emery wanted the club to fill the void which Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio created when their loan spells ended. So, Aston Villa wanted to sign multiple attackers in the summer transfer window.
While Aston Villa wanted to re-sign Asensio and discussed a deal for several weeks, the Spanish international joined Fenerbahce. So, Sancho emerged as a viable alternative late in the summer transfer window, with Aston Villa and Manchester United quickly negotiating a deadline-day move for the 25-year-old Englishman.
However, Sancho’s contract situation has compelled Manchester United to mull over triggering the clause that extends his deal by 12 months. But that will not happen, with Manchester United ready to part ways with the troublemaker for free instead of recouping something from his permanent exit next summer.
