Leeds United will reportedly look to sign 29-year-old Italian international Lorenzo Pellegrini from Serie A club AS Roma next year.
According to a report by Italian outlet AS Roma Live, Lorenzo Pellegrini is the subject of interest from Leeds United. The Whites are keen on reinforcing their first-team squad by signing a versatile midfielder next year. So, the 29-year-old former AS Roma captain has emerged as a target for the newly promoted Premier League club.
The 2024/25 EFL Championship winners are ready to launch a bid to sign the Rome native next year, with Inter Milan midfielder Piotr Zielinski also on their wishlist. Signing one of the two Serie A-based players will enable Leeds United to satisfy Daniel Farke’s wish to land an attacking midfielder.
Lorenzo Pellegrini at a crossroads
Lorenzo Pellegrini has reached a crossroads in his career after entering the final 12 months of his contract with AS Roma. Additionally, the 29-year-old is not in Gian Piero Gasperini’s plans, and the Serie A outfit stripped him of the club captaincy ahead of the 2025/26 season. Furthermore, Frederic Massara confirmed a few weeks ago that the Giallorossi would look to find a solution for him in the final days of the summer transfer window.
That did not materialise, and Pellegrini remains at AS Roma, managing only 118 minutes of game time thus far in two outings. However, the Italian midfielder’s situation at AS Roma and contract situation has alerted several well-known clubs.. Premier League clubs, in particular, have been keen on signing him, with Leeds United among the prospective suitors vying for his signature.
Premier League move on the horizon?
Leeds United’s interest in Lorenzo Pellegrini is understandable. While the Whites reinforced their midfield unit by signing Anton Stach and Sean Longstaff in the summer transfer window, Daniel Farke wants an attacking midfielder who can link the midfield with the attack.
So, Pellegrini has emerged as a viable target, and convincing the former AS Roma captain to move to the Premier League may not be a tall order due to his situation at the Serie A club. Meanwhile, the Rome native can be a transformative signing for Leeds United, as he will also bring his leadership ability to the table.
So, after West Ham United made several attempts to sign Pellegrini from AS Roma, the 29-year-old Italian international can finally arrive in the Premier League if Leeds United launch a bid to secure his services.
