Liverpool and Real Madrid were keen on Edon Zhegrova before Juventus move

Real Madrid and Liverpool were interested in Edon Zhegrova during the summer before the winger made his switch to Juventus.

According to Tuttosport via Sport Witness, Edon Zhegrova had plenty of clubs showing an interest in signing him during the summer. The winger ended up joining Juventus in a bargain deal, but the likes of Liverpool and Real Madrid were among those keen on him at some stage.

Edon Zhegrova signed for Juventus in a bargain deal from LOSC Lille during the summer window. The winger was highly regarded at some stage of his career, but not recently, owing to some fitness issues he has had over the last season.

Juventus took the opportunity to bring him in as they managed to offload Nico Gonzalez to Atletico Madrid, as those deals were co-dependent in some way. The former Lille star did have plenty of other suitors earlier in the summer, including Liverpool and Real Madrid.

Liverpool were looking to improve their attack, and credit to them, they emphatically did that. The signing of Alexander Isak was the highlight of their window, but the arrival of Florian Wirtz was seen as a big statement of intent from the Merseysiders during the summer.

While they pondered signing Zhegrova as a cover option for Mohamed Salah, the deal might have been contingent on their ability to offload Federico Chiesa. However, the fitness issue, which happens to be a groin problem that saw the 26-year-old wide man miss more than 250 days since last December, proved to be the factor that saw Liverpool cool their interest in the Kosovo international.

Real Madrid looked at Edon Zhegrova

Not only Liverpool, but Real Madrid were also among the 26-year-old wide man’s admirers during the summer. While they might have looked at him as a potential option to refresh their right wing, they did sign teenager Franco Mastantuono from River Plate.

The Argentine has since established himself as a starter under Xabi Alonso, which does make the likes of Zhegrova was probably a distant alternative of sorts. Overall, the winger probably had no chance of joining either Real Madrid or Liverpool, as he will now look to establish himself at Juventus.
