Former Tottenham Hotspur left-back Sergio Reguilon is reportedly keen on returning to Spain amid his recent links with Everton.
According to an update by Football Insider, Sergio Reguilon is the subject of interest of Everton. Recent reports have claimed that the Toffees have been mulling over dipping into the free-agent market after Vitaliy Mykolenko and Adam Aznou struggled with injuries in the early stages of the 2025/26 season.
While recent reports have suggested that he is open to moving to the Premier League, the Spaniard wants to return to his homeland when he joins his next club. So, Everton must look elsewhere for a new left-back if they continue their push to reinforce the defensive unit.
Sergio Reguilon and his situation
Sergio Reguilon has hit a brick wall since joining Tottenham Hotspur from Real Madrid in September 2020. The 28-year-old arrived at the North London club amid hype and fanfare surrounding him after a solid spell with Sevilla. However, he was inconsistent in his first two seasons at Tottenham before spending time on the sidelines in the last few campaigns.
The Spanish full-back made 73 appearances for Tottenham Hotspur while chipping in with two goals and nine assists. However, Reguilon has become a free agent after his contract with the North London club expired several weeks ago. While the possibility of signing him for free is appealing, the former Real Madrid defender has yet to find his next club.
What next?
Widespread reports have linked Sergio Reguilon with a few Premier League clubs, including Everton. The Merseyside club’s interest in the former Tottenham defender is perplexing, even though Vitaliy Mykolenko and Adam Aznou have spent some time on the sidelines this season.
Signing Reguilon will created an unnecessarily inflated left-back unit for David Moyes, creating a problem of plenty. Nevertheless, the 28-year-old Spaniard has been a target for Everton, with the Toffees considering a Bosman move. However, the former Tottenham full-back wants to return to Spain when he joins his next club.
Recent reports have linked Reguilon with Sevilla and Real Sociedad, and returning to the former may appeal to the Spanish full-back. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for the player amid his desire to join a Spanish club.
