Conor Gallagher wants to leave Atletico Madrid, winter exit ruled out

Conor Gallagher would like to leave Atletico Madrid amid Premier League interest, although an exit in January will be unlikely.

According to Football Insider, Conor Gallagher could be open to the prospect of leaving Atletico Madrid in January, although an exit seems unlikely then. Diego Simeone considers the English midfielder a key part of his squad, amid interest from Crystal Palace, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

Conor Gallagher’s immediate future at Atletico Madrid is already a subject of discussion ahead of the January window. Reports were stating that the English midfielder could have departed in the latter stages of the summer window despite attracting interest from Premier League sides.

Crystal Palace reportedly eyed a loan deal for the former Chelsea star, while Manchester United were also keen at some stage. The Red Devils were reportedly considering landing the England international in a late deal after they failed to sign Carlos Baleba.

The 25-year-old Englishman is frustrated in Madrid, but he is seen as a key part of Diego Simeone’s squad for the remainder of the 2025/26 season, as Tottenham were reportedly told to pay at least £50 million to sign Conor Gallagher. Whether teams are ready to invest as much remains to be seen, but there are chances some of those will come in with an approach.

Tottenham and Manchester United are considering winter moves for Gallagher, who, in turn, might be open to the idea of departing Atletico Madrid. A place in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the World Cup could be in jeopardy for the Atletico Madrid midfielder should he continue to play in fragments under Simeone.

Atletico Madrid exit unlikely for Conor Gallagher

Atletico Madrid are not considering the idea of letting Gallagher leave in January, especially in a period when Simeone will need all his key stars to stick around. The report goes on to state that while the 25-year-old English international will be open to exploring an exit, he would also be open to staying and fighting for his place in the squad.

Hence, a move away from Atletico Madrid looks difficult for Conor Gallagher unless one of Crystal Palace, Manchester United, or Tottenham stumps up a big fee for his signature. For now, his immediate future is likely to be at the Spanish capital, although that could change next summer depending on how he fares this season.
