Sergio Reguilon is keen on securing an immediate return to the Premier League, having parted ways with Tottenham.
According to Pete O’Rourke via Football Insider, Sergio Reguilon could end up making a return to the Premier League just two months after leaving Tottenham. Everton are one of the English clubs that could make a move for the Spanish free agent.
Pete O’Rourke on Sergio Reguilon’s potential return to England
While speaking about the Real Madrid graduate’s future, O’Rourke said, “Yeah, obviously he’s had probably a disappointing couple of years, Reguilon, after he couldn’t establish himself in the Spurs team.
“He had a couple of loan spells away at Man United and Brentford, but again didn’t really rip up any trees on those loan moves. A lot will depend on whether any Premier League clubs are in desperate needs of reinforcements at the back due to injury issues.
“Reguilon might then figure on their wanted list because he is a free agent and would be an ideal option to add experience and cover at left-back. Being a free agent it would be a low-risk investment for any Premier League clubs because there would be no fee involved for him.”
Reguilon came up the ranks at Real Madrid. While the Spaniard did get promoted to their first team, he never really had a prominent role at the club. Following an impressive loan spell at Sevilla, Tottenham secured his services in the summer of 2020.
Sergio Reguilon was an integral part of their first team in the initial years, but slowly he went down the pecking order and spent a significant amount of time out on loan. The 28-year-old had loan spells at Brentford and Manchester United, but neither of those moves worked out in his favour.
While the Spanish full-back was a part of the Tottenham squad for the 2024/25 season, Reguilon was only involved in six games. With his surplus to requirements, Spurs never considered the option of handing him a new deal, and he was released in July upon the expiry of his contract.
Will Reguilon secure a return to Premier League?
The 28-year-old has been on the lookout for a new club ever since, but he has yet to find an ideal destination. Sergio Reguilon could secure a return to England, amidst interest from multiple top clubs. However, a lot depends on any potential injuries in the full-back department.
Given his injury record and the lack of game time, clubs are not actively looking to sign him. But an injury crisis could force them to sign the former Real Madrid defender. The Spaniard will be a low-risk signing as he is available for free, and his experience could come in handy.
Everton have emerged as a potential destination with Vitaliy Mykolenko picking up an injury during the international break and summer signing Adam Aznou yet to make an apperance because of an ongoing issue. If the Toffees suffer another blow at the back, they could certainly sign Reguilon as a short-term fix.
