Manchester United will reportedly look to sign 25-year-old Portuguese international Francisco Trincao from Sporting CP next year.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Francisco Trincao is the subject of interest from Manchester United. The Red Devils are eager to bolster their offensive unit by signing a versatile attacker next year. So, the 25-year-old Sporting CP winger has emerged as a target for the struggling Premier League giants.
Francisco Trincao and his progress at Sporting CP
Francisco Trincao has revived his fortunes since joining Sporting CP from Barcelona. The Primeira Liga outfit initially signed the former SC Braga winger on loan in July 2022 before completing a permanent move 12 months later. The switch has benefitted the player, who had lost his way at FC Barcelona.
The 25-year-old has gradually grown in stature at Sporting CP, and his creative output has been impressive in the last three years. The situation has transformed in the early stages of the 2025/26 season, as Trincao has added goals to his game, amassing five goals and one assist in seven appearances across all competitions.
The Portuguese international has contributed to 73 goals in 161 appearances thus far for Sporting CP, chipping in with 39 goals and 34 assists. Meanwhile, the player’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs. Manchester United will be among the prospective suitors vying for his signature next year.
Premier League move on the horizon?
Francisco Trincao has been on Manchester United’s radar for a long time. The continued interest is understandable, considering Ruben Amorim can do with more options in the offensive unit and for the wing-back slots despite the early impact of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.
So, Trincao has emerged as a viable target for Manchester United, as his ability to reprise roles in central areas and on the flanks makes him an appealing option for Ruben Amorim’s system. The report has suggested that the struggling Premier League giants “value the maturity” Trincao has shown.
Reports in the summer transfer window suggested Ruben Amorim pushed Manchester United to sign Trincao. It will be interesting to see if the Red Devils reignite their move for the 25-year-old Portuguese international in the next two transfer windows.
